Humans have a knack and a propensity for seeing what makes other people different from them.

Some of us take pride in not being like others; we say things like, “I want to be different!” While others of us don’t want to stand out at all, saying things like, “I don’t want to be different.” But regardless of whether we want to be different or we don’t want to stand out, ALL of us see the differences in others!

Those differences not only stand out to us, but we then leverage them to disassociate ourselves from those who are different from us. We stay away because of those differences and often characterize those people as strange or strangers.

But Jesus flipped this entire propensity and paradigm on its head! Jesus came and made space for the stranger! He took the outcasts, the unloved, and the marginalized and brought them into the fold. He welcomed both the rejected and the respected. He invited in those who were forgotten and those who were well-known.

Jesus made room for all people, and with Jesus all people felt at home!

And in this week’s message at Meta Church, Pastor Ricky Ortiz shares vision for how we at Meta Church will continue to do the same.
