“You must have the same attitude that Christ Jesus had. Though he was God, he did not think of equality with God as something to cling to. Instead, he gave up his divine privileges: he took the humble position of a slave and was born as a human being. When he appeared in human form, he humbled himself in obedience to God and died a criminal’s death on a cross.” – Philippians 2:5-8
Jesus didn’t view His divinity – and all that came with it – as something to hold onto. Instead, He poured it all out and emptied Himself, so that you could experience the best that He has to offer. In fact, Romans 8:17 even says that because Jesus held nothing back, you have now become an heir to all that belonged to Christ!
When it comes to “holding nothing back“ we need to look no further than to Jesus, Himself. He modeled this for us, and in doing so, He set the standard for what it means to hold nothing back. And when you consider how Jesus lived His life, and what He gave up so that He could save us, it becomes easy to see that Jesus gave you His first and His best!
This same attitude and mindset – the one Jesus demonstrated for us and that the Apostle Paul wrote about – is the same one you are called to have.
Reflections Questions:
- How have you experienced Jesus’s “first and best” in your life?
- When it comes to generosity and holding nothing back, in what ways is your attitude similar to Jesus?
- When it comes to generosity and holding nothing back, in what ways could your attitude be more aligned like Jesus?
